About the role
Cohere is hiring a Data Engineer for Data Foundations on its Analytics & Data Insights team, remote-flexible (offices in Toronto, NY, SF, London, Paris).
You build the foundational infrastructure for one of the world's leading frontier AI systems. The team helps enterprises understand what foundational AI means for their bottom line, launches products that didn't exist a year ago, and operates at the edge of what's known about LLM deployment.
Work includes: building production-grade data processing systems, running implementations end-to-end through to real outcomes, partnering across research, marketing, sales, and finance with recommendations feeding directly into products and strategy.
Required: 5+ years in production data systems, strong Python and SQL, distributed processing frameworks (Apache Beam, Spark, or Flink), large-scale data system design, ability to transform unstructured data into performant relational and blob-storage datasets, modern analytics stack (BigQuery, Airflow, dbt). Java or Go and Kubernetes are nice-to-haves.
What stands out: explicit "comfort operating at the edge of what's known, with a desire to build something genuinely new rather than optimise what already exists." This is foundation-building, not maintenance.
